Verwood RUFC Match Reports 2007/8
15th December 2007
A confident Verwood overcome a robust Fawley side.
Early exchanges between the forwards indicated that this would be a
hard fought match and Verwood’s better discipline was to win the day
for them.
Chris Tunnicliff broke the deadlock on 15 minuets after some sustained
pressure from Verwood’s forwards and was driven to the line with the
whole pack driving him on. 5-0 toVerwood.
Fawley would not lie down and hit back with a well worked try from the
open side flanker who scored under the posts 5-7 Fawley.
Fawley kept there lead for just 5 minutes when they were penalised
at the ruck and Dan Moor put the penalty over from 22 meters. 8-7 to Verwood.
Verwood’s second try came from the oppositions defence being found
wanting. Dan Moor tapped a 5 meter penalty and drove under the Fawley tacklers.
13-7 to Verwood at half time.
The second half show a much improved Fawley side who must have had a good old fashion telling off at the break. Their second half discipline was much improved and this show in the rugby. With 15 minutes to go Fawley scored the try of the match. Verwood were pressing in Fawley’s 22 when the away side’s full back picked up a loose ball and with great inter passing and support Fawley scored under the posts giving them a nail-biting single point lead. But with only minutes to go, Matt Moor scored the deciding try when he received a pass just inside the Fawley half and with lightning pace burst through the covering tacklers to score in the corner.
